Bismuth is an unusual, laboratory grown crystal which forms intricate rhombic patterns, called 'hopper crystals'. The irridescent colours range through reds, bues, purples, gold and green and are caused by a thin layer of bismuth oxide which forms on the surface of the crystal as it cools.
