Rune stones are believed to be a way of interacting with both the spirit and the living world. Consisting of twenty four letters of an ancient Germanic alphabet, developed since the 3rd century AD, the characters are formed from straight lines, reflecting early origins of carving into stone or wood.
The word 'rune' means secret or mystery, and each symbol embodies a spiritual concept. They can be used for divination purposes: casting a set of rune stones randomly and divining the meanings from the shapes, order, pattern and direction in which they land; or drawing them at random and laying them in 'spreads'. The symbols themselves carry power, and should be treated respectfully and with goodness.
